Salumi in Seattle

16 Nov

Every time I visit Seattle I must visit this busy restaurant for lunch.  You may call it a narrow storefront, a counter, or a tiny restaurant.  It is a very busy place where you can find house-cured Italian meats along with hot or cold sandwiches, and platters.  Cooked meats includes sausages, meatballs, oxtails, whereas cured meats vary from salamis, coppa, culatello, pancetta, prosciuttos and cured lamb.

I have been to Salumi countless times.  When I first went there the lineup was over 10 people long. Now I figure if I arrive before noon, I should miss the lunch crowd.  But there is always a line of 5-6 people ahead of me. When I order, I always have a difficult time to decide on a sandwich.  Sometimes it is because there are a few choices of meat that I want to try, but sometimes it is just because they tend to run out of certain meats, cheeses or breads.

Salumi is a small restaurant.  There is only one big table where people eat and mingle. Free water and wines (for $4.5/glass) are available on the same table for self serve.  It seems that they have a small room that you can reserve for special occasions (for $40/people, of course!).

Last week, my hubby and I waited in line for just 15 minutes.  I call it a blessing already.  We got two sandwiches to split: the culatello with mozarella on ciabatta with garlic spread and olive oil, and the grilled lamb on ciabatta with peppers and onions.  They were so flavorful. The sandwiches and meats there are truly of the higher quality. I definitely found an appreciation for the authentic Italian taste.

Also, I overheard that the “meatballs” are huge and they taste sensational.  Anyway, if you are in Seattle, Salumi is worth a try for lunch.

Return from Abroad

22 Oct

I’m back. Recently I spent a whole month over in HK. This long overdue trip was my first holiday for over two years. I had a great time catching up with my family members and friends but also got to know baby J. It has been a wonderful time but hectic. I won’t be taking any long trip soon. I am drained from this trip.
